Lou Johnson est né en 1941 à Brooklyn (New-York), c'est un chanteur, pianiste, percussionniste et il a sévi dans les années 60's et 70's.
Avant de débuter sa carrière solo, Lou Johnson a fait partie avec Valentine Adams des Zionettes of Denmark, sur le label SIMPSON RECORDS (206 et 214).
On le retrouve ensuite au sein des Canjoes (Dapt 208) avec Theresa Cleveland et Ann Gissendanner (deux futures Soul Sisters sur le label Sue).
1962 Lou Johnson a pris son envol et un contrat est signé avec BIG TOP RECORDS géré par HILL & RANGE MUSIC.
Lou Johnson a eu deux compositeurs de renom Burt Bacharach, Hal David, leur collaboration a donné naissance à "If I Never Get To Love You" (Big Top 45-3115, 1962)

Le 45T suivant "Wouldn’t That Be Something" / "You Better Let Him Go" ne sera pas un succès.
1963 sera plus favorable à Lou Johnson avec le titre "Reach Out For Me" (Big Top 45-3153, 1963)

1964 est un tournant avec une 49ème place dans le classement R&B et donc un succès avec "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me" (Big Hill 552, 1964), cela marque aussi la fin de la collaboration avec Burt Bacharach qui est occupé à écrire pour Dionne Warwick.
