Le 20 août 1972, l’événement musico-culturel Wattstax, alias le « Woodstock noir », réunit près de 100 000 spectateurs au Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Le concert, organisé par Stax Records sept ans après les tragiques émeutes raciales du quartier de Watts, aligne sept heures de musique prodiguée par les plus prestigieux membres du label légendaire. De la soul, du funk, du gospel, du jazz et du blues avec, entre autres, Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor, Carla Thomas, The Bar-Kays, Kim Weston, Albert King et Eddie Floyd.

Stax Records et Craft Recordings annoncent la sortie le 24 février prochain d’une série de coffrets saluant le célèbre Wattstax Benefit Concert :
